The distance to track a dog with a wireless tag varies depending on the type of tag, and the following is an introduction to the tracking distance of several common wireless tags:
- Bluetooth positioning tag: The effective range is usually about 10 meters. Bluetooth technology is through short distance communication with other Bluetooth devices to achieve positioning, affected by signal strength and obstacles, generally suitable for tracking dogs indoors or in a small area.
- GPS location tag: can cover almost the whole world. GPS location tags receive satellite signals to determine the location, as long as the GPS signal coverage of the area, theoretically can be tracked. In the open environment, even if the dog runs out a few kilometers or even farther, the owner can obtain its location information through the corresponding device or mobile APP. However, in indoor, underground parking lots, remote mountain areas with strong signal shielding and other places, the GPS signal may be weak or unable to receive.
- Base station positioning technology uses the signal transmission between mobile devices and multiple mobile communication base stations to calculate the position, and the positioning range depends on the coverage and signal strength of the base station, which can generally cover a range of several kilometers, but the positioning accuracy is relatively low.
- Wi-Fi Location tag: When your dog is in Wi-Fi coverage, the location can be calculated by measuring the difference in signal strength or transmission time between multiple Wi-Fi access points. Usually in the home, shopping malls, schools and other areas with Wi-Fi coverage can work better, the coverage range is generally tens of meters to hundreds of meters, depending on the strength of the Wi-Fi signal and coverage.
- Ultra-wide band (UWB) positioning label: UWB technology has the advantages of high bandwidth, high speed, strong anti-interference ability, etc., can achieve high-precision positioning function, positioning accuracy can reach centimeter level, and the general working range is within tens of meters.
