The death toll from a wildfire in Los Angeles, California, rose to 24 on Monday, with 2,500 homes and other buildings confirmed to have been completely destroyed.

  • The latest fire situation report from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection shows that as of the evening of the 12th local time, there are still three wildfires burning at the same time in Los Angeles County, burning an area of more than 38,600 acres. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office released data on the same day showing that the death toll from the fire has risen to 24 from 16 the previous day. Sixteen people died as a result of the Eaton Fire and eight died as a result of the Palisades Fire. The Eaton Fire also injured at least five firefighters.
  • The Palisades Fire, which started in the Palisades area of Pacifica County in Los Angeles County on July 7, has continued to spread to 23,713 acres, or 13 percent of the area under control. More than 5,000 buildings have been damaged by the fire, of which 1,105 are confirmed burned and 12,250 are threatened by fire.
  • The Eaton Fire, which began burning in the Altadena and Pasadena areas of Los Angeles County on December 7, burned 14,117 acres on December 12. Compared to the previous day, the fire area did not expand further, and the controlled area increased from 15% to 27%. More than 7,000 buildings have been damaged by the fire, of which 1,422 are confirmed burned and 39,428 are threatened by fire.
  • In addition, the "Hurst Fire" ignited in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles County did not continue to expand on the 12th, the fire area of 799 acres, the controlled area increased to 89%.
  • According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, more than 8,500 people, nearly 1,000 fire trucks and dozens of firefighting helicopters are battling the blaze, and personnel search and rescue, hazardous material monitoring and damage assessment are also being carried out. The wind is expected to strengthen and the air humidity will remain low in the fire area from Sunday evening local time, and the "red flag warning" for the fire will continue until Sunday.
