A "Bark collar" is a device worn around a dog's neck to control excessive barking. Here's how:
Working principle
- Sound sensor principle: The collar has a built-in sound sensor, which can keenly capture the barking of the dog. When the dog barks, the sensor converts the sound signal into an electrical signal, triggering the collar to work, issuing such as ultrasonic waves, warning sounds, etc., or generating vibration, electric shock and other stimuli to remind the dog to stop barking.
- Motion sensor principle: Some anti-barking collars use motion sensors to mainly monitor the vibration of the dog's throat. The dog's throat vibrates when it barks, and when the sensor detects the vibration signal, it activates the corresponding stimulus mode to stop the barking.
- How the spray works: Some anti-barking collars use spray to stop barking. When the sensor detects barking, the collar releases a spray such as lemon eucalyptus oil, which is harmless to dogs but has a specific smell, and the dog doesn't like the smell and stops barking.
Precautions for use
- Choose the right type: Choose according to your dog's size, personality and barking habits. For small dogs or gentle dogs, vibratory or spray anti-barking collars are available; For large dogs or dogs with more persistent barking, consider an anti-barking collar with shock function and adjustable strength, but the intensity of the shock should be moderate.
- Proper wear and adjustment: Wear the collar correctly according to the instructions, and ensure that the collar size is appropriate, neither affecting the dog's breathing and activity, nor too loose to cause the sensor to work accurately. At the same time, adjust the sensitivity and stimulation intensity according to the actual situation of the dog.
- Use in moderation: An anti-barking collar is only an aid and cannot completely replace normal training and socialization. Excessive reliance on anti-barking collars may cause dogs to have negative emotions such as fear and anxiety, affecting their mental health. Incorporate positive motivation training methods, such as rewarding the dog when it is quiet.
- Monitor reactions closely: Pay close attention to your dog's behavioral and emotional reactions during use. If the dog shows abnormal fear, increased aggression, avoidance, etc., stop using immediately and consult a veterinarian or professional dog trainer.
- Avoid wearing it for a long time: wearing it for a long time may cause your dog's skin to become uncomfortable, allergic or indentation. Remove the collar when not in use to allow your dog's neck skin to breathe and relax.
